What Counts as a Service Call vs. Setup & Education vs. Custom Install?
Not every tech visit is the same. Some calls are about fixing something broken, some are about setting up and learning equipment, and some are larger projects that need a quote before the work starts.
This guide is for homeowners and small offices in Brantford, Paris, St. George, Glen Morris, Ancaster, Dundas, Hamilton, and nearby communities.
The Quick Rule
Ask yourself one question: am I fixing something, learning or setting something up, or adding something new?
Best when something is not working and needs diagnosis or troubleshooting. Additional time is $60 per extra 30 minutes.
Best when the job has a clear scope and you want equipment configured, explained, and easier to use.
Best for bigger installs, multi-room work, wiring, home theatre, complex WiFi, business networks, or multi-device projects.
Choose a Service Call When Something Is Not Working
A service call is for diagnosis, troubleshooting, and quick fixes. If your TV used to connect but now will not, your WiFi keeps dropping, your streaming apps are acting up, your printer disappeared from the network, or your sound system suddenly sounds wrong, start here.
- TV, remote, streaming, or smart TV troubleshooting
- WiFi dropouts, slow connections, or router problems
- Soundbar, receiver, speaker, or Sonos issues
- Doorbell camera, smart device, printer, or basic computer problems
- Small office issues with WiFi, printers, scanners, displays, or staff devices
The goal is to find the cause, explain it clearly, and fix what can be fixed during the visit. If the problem turns into a bigger upgrade, Tim will explain that before the job changes.
Choose Setup & Education When You Need It Configured and Explained
Setup & Education is for defined-scope jobs where the main goal is getting equipment set up properly and making sure you know how to use it afterward.
- New TV, streaming device, remote, or smart TV setup
- WiFi, smart home, doorbell camera, or app setup
- Device training for anyone who wants the setup explained clearly
- AI orientation, account setup, privacy basics, and safe prompting
- Small office staff device setup or simple workflow training
This visit is a good fit when the equipment is mostly working, but the setup is confusing, incomplete, or frustrating to use.
Choose a Custom Install When You Are Adding or Upgrading
A custom install is for work that needs planning, materials, extra labour, or a larger scope than a normal visit. These jobs are quoted before the project moves ahead.
- Home theatre setup, receiver upgrades, speaker placement, or clean wiring
- Whole-home audio or multi-room entertainment systems
- Complex WiFi, mesh WiFi, access points, or business network improvements
- Multiple TVs, devices, rooms, or users
- Small office projects that go beyond basic troubleshooting
If the job is more than a quick fix or a defined setup, Tim will assess it and confirm pricing before moving forward.
What If You Pick the Wrong Option?
That is normal. A WiFi problem can turn into a router replacement. A TV issue can turn out to be a streaming setup problem. A simple audio fix can reveal that the system needs a bigger rethink.
The booking form is there to collect useful details, not to lock you into the wrong category. Tim reviews the request, confirms the scope, and replies before anything is booked.
How to Prepare for a Visit
- Write down what is happening and when it started.
- Have remotes, passwords, account logins, and app access ready if possible.
- For WiFi problems, note which rooms or devices are affected.
- For installs, list what you want the system to do when it is finished.
Not sure where your job fits?
Send the booking request with the details you have. Tim will confirm whether it looks like a service call, setup visit, or custom install.
